Bored off my tits

Well we've not got too much longer to wait but as the date gets closer and closer, time seems to be slowing down for me. I really should just be out fishing and passing time on but at the minute I've not got any drive at all. Everything is just wrong for me. Being a miserable git most of the time not and wanting to see other anglers on the bank, the sun is out and I just know that all the places I normally have to myself when it's cold, wet and windy will have someone casting a line. I passed a couple of spots today while out and about. A sneak peak at the water in the hope it looked good and would be free of anglers was met by the sight of people. How dare they be enjoying my waters?

I drift off in to a daydream while at work, trying to think of somewhere on my fishing list that might be worth a trip out later in the evening. My day on the job seems to be lasting a life time. I knuckle down and get some jobs done and think I've done ok but when I check the time it seems to have stood still.  More daydreaming and scheming but each spot I think of I end up talking myself out of going to as I know it really isn't worth all the effort. I sit here on an evening, flicking through the internet for something interesting to read but get bored after ten minutes. Even reading the fishing forums doesn't grab my attention just now. I've pottered around in the garden, done a few jobs but I'm that bored I really can't be bothered doing most of the stuff that needs doing. Friggin' 'ell is it Monday yet?

All this waiting, all this planning and all this thinking of fishing and I haven't got a clue what I'm doing next week. I'll be on the afternoon shift all week. I've not booked any days off, I just figured I'd go out for a few hours each morning. However I already have Monday and Tuesday interrupted so if I do get out it will have to be very early or in a couple of spells. This warm weather isn't my thing so I'm now starting to think I should be hitting the rivers with my ultra light gear. Actually that could be a good plan. I could travel light and fish some parts of the river that no one ever fishes because of tough access. Who knows what could be hiding? But it's hard to resist having a crack at the spots that haven't been touched since the back end of March. Common sense says I need to be at my favourite spots to get the fish off guard. Oh well, more day dreaming tomorrow and I'll see what I come up with. I hope you lads have got your plans sorted because I haven't got a clue what to do.

I do like pike lures though.

    1. Best part about it Lee, more options. I don't do much variety but the venue you fish is more interesting. I feel rewarded finding the fish where on a canal I just get lucky finding them in a featureless spot.

  3. Know how you feel buddy, I too am feeling the same and always do this time of year. I think it is the waiting that does it to us.

Fianlly got my plan sorted for Monday I think - going to hit the banks at first light and be on and off my first spot before the barbel boys turn up! And then plan to visit a few of the other rivers, planning 3 of the Yorkshire rivers in total.

Think hardest thing for me on my waters will be avoiding all the barbel boys, however got one or too spots that never see the coarse boys, because they cant carry all their gear that far! hahaha

Hope you get something sorted bud and best of luck for Monday.

    1. Sounds like a good plan. I love fishing the harder to reach places, because as you say, other anglers can't be bothered. I might go out first thing with the heavy gear, have a few chucks but then i need to be home for an hour at 9am. Could then may be squeeze in another hour but might just take UL gear then.

  4. I know how you feel mate, personally ive not been too bad this year as ive had a variety of different things to do keeping me busy. This last week though ive not been able to get out do to a lack of car which i dont get back till tomorrow. So combine that with knowing that next weeks the rivers are open and then i have loads more options its made this week slow right down!
Then as you say i get irritated at the thought of every man and his dog out fishing, im like you and if i see another person while im fishing i instantly get pissed off! I go fishing for the solitude and peace.
I often think of plans for where to go then change my mind as i suspect others will be there and i can't be arsed with that.
On monday im on the boat with Neil so at least we wont have the problem of muppets on the bank, but tuesday and weds im bank fishing and in a way not looking forward to the prospects of others being where i want to be. Its not that i have any more right to be there its just a barsteward when you drive and use loads of fuel to find someone allready there and it becomes a waste of time.

Good luck when you manage to get out anyway, ill probably see you soon on a double boat day now we have that option again!!

    1. Yep, we're a bit similar with that Matt. I enjoy the social side but when I go out for my little short sessions on my own I like it to be just me.

Where you off Monday? New river or the usual? good luck, and I think you might need some sunscreen if this weather keeps up.

    2. Yeah usual i think, somewhere inbetween is the best weather wise. its good that its not raining but at the same time ya don't want it bright and blazing hot!
At the minute though its just a bit excitable at the thought of no rain and rivers being in really good condition, for once the fishing gods are smiling on us for the start of the season! Im not even going to tempt fate by sugesting anything for the rest of the year!!!!!

  5. Paul,

I've got Monday booked off and will be throwing some small lures about for Perch. Not lure fished in the summer before but I'm really looking forward to it. I doubt I will see anyone as the nettle beds are head high. This week at work is dragging, I shall get the first train down to the river being a non driver and will be fishing by 0600.

Let's hope the weather is kinder this year, as opposed to the poxy winter we just had,

    1. Great way to enjoy the river Monty. A dozen small lures, a bit of food n drink and off you go. You get to see all sorts, a chance of catching a wide variety of fish and if you have it all to yourself it's another level of enjoyment. Weather looks good for you, well worth using a days holiday for. Good luck and I look forward to reading your blog.
